Commander Nestore G. "Jack" Biasi, 87, died Sunday, March 3, 2013.

Jack was born in 1925 to Giacomo and Noemi Biasi in New Kensington, Pa. He was always proud of his Italian heritage and being a first-generation American.

In 1943, Jack joined the Navy, and served as a Marine corpsman in the Pacific Theater throughout World War II. He became a career Navy man, serving proudly for 30 years, retiring as a commander. He married Rose Simonini on June 28, 1952. They were married almost 50 years, raising two sons, Richard and Michael. Rose passed away from Alzheimer's disease on Feb. 14, 2002. He moved the family to Poway, Calif., in 1973, after his naval retirement, and went to work and SAIC. After his retirement from the SAIC, he became highly involved in many clubs in the area. In late June 2002, Jack was introduced to his second wife, Joan Sullivan, at Escondido Elks Lodge, and they were married thereafter on April 5, 2003. After a long illness, Jack passed away peacefully in his sleep. Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla for their exceptional care and kindness.

He will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a very compassionate and loving man. He is survived by his wife, Joan Sullivan Biasi; two sons, from his first marriage, Richard (Leslie) and Michael; three beloved grandchildren, Samantha, Devon and Wesley; two sisters, Merice Marchi in Italy and Anna Spera in New Jersey; along with many nieces and nephews.
