Raymond H. Walker

AGE: 91 • Littleton, NC

Raymond H. Walker, 91, of Littleton, NC., died Sunday February 9, 2014 at his home after a short illness. Born in Port Elizabeth, NJ on October 1, 1922, he was the son of the late Lorenzo and Emma Kessler Walker. Ray resided on Fuller Lane in Hyde Park from 1945-2008 before moving to Littleton, NC.

He served in the Army from 1943-1946 and received the Purple Heart for his service. He worked for the National Park Service at the Roosevelt and Vanderbilt Estates from 1946-1977. After retiring from there, he worked part time in his son's remodeling business and at Crispell Hardware until full retirement in 1985. He was a member of multiple bowling leagues and enjoyed playing golf. Mr. Walker was a communicant of St. James' Episcopal Church, Hyde Park, and an Associate Member of Lakeside Lutheran Church, Littleton, NC.

On December 31, 1945 in St. James' Episcopal Chapel in Hyde Park, he married Eleanor Horrocks, now deceased. He is survived by a son, Brian Walker of Littleton, NC., a daughter, Jane Miller and husband Scott of Littleton, NC., two granddaughters, Kelly DuMortier of Fuquay Varina, NC., and Heather Miller of Cary, NC., a great grandson, Jonah DuMortier, two sisters, Marion Chance and Janice Graff both of Millville, NJ., and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas and two sisters, Catherine and Lillian.

A memorial service will be held at the Hoffman Funeral Homes 643 Main Street Leesburg on Saturday March 8, 2014 at 11:00 AM. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial of his ashes will be in the family plot in St. James' Churchyard, Hyde Park in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice, 3320 US 1 Highway, Suite B, Franklinton, NC., 27525 or to Lakeside Lutheran Church, 2427 Eaton Ferry Rd. Littleton, NC 27850 for their hand bell choir.
