Sylvia (Goodman) Stern, 93, of Vineland passed away on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at her home.
Born in Philadelphia in 1919, Sylvia came to Vineland to live with the Lipman family in 1925. She graduated from Vineland High School and worked as a medical receptionist/assistant for Dr. Charles Cunningham until her marriage to Albert Stern. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Sylvia was a lifelong member of the Beth Israel Congregation, the Hebrew Women's Benevolent Society and the Beth Israel Sisterhood. She will also be remembered for the beautiful table that she set and the beautiful blankets she knitted for family members.
She is survived by her son, Marc Stern of Malibu, Calif.; her son-in-law, Ronald Staut of State College, Pa.; her daughters-in-law, Eva Stern and Rebecca Staut; her grandchildren, Scott Staut of Columbus Ga., Tara Lang of Glenshaw, Pa., Adam Stern of Malibu, Calif., Suzanne Stern Gilison of Santa Monica Calif., Doug Staut of New York and Kenneth Staut of New York; her grandchildren-in-law, Carrie Staut, George Lang, Erika Stern, Steve Gilison and Kimberly Staut; her great-grandchildren, Shannon Lang, Cullen Lang, Tyler Staut, Ethan Stern, Kevin Staut, Lola Stern, Allie Staut, Sadie Gilison, Greta Gilison, Leo Gilison, Hailey Staut and Clara Staut; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Sylvia is also survived by her devoted caregiver, Scvara Mirsalikhova.
She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Albert Barry Stern; daughter, Rona Stern Staut; brother, Isidore Goodman; and her parents, Samuel and Anna Goodman.
Graveside services were held on Monday in the Alliance Cemetery, Gershal Avenue, Norma.
Arrangements are under the supervision of the Rone Funeral Service, 1110 E. Chestnut Ave., Vineland.
Donations, if so desired, may be made in her memory to the Albert B. Stern Scholarship Fund in care of Marc I. Stern, 865 S. Figueroa St., Suite No. 1800, Los Angeles, CA 90017. The fund helps deserving graduates of Vineland High School who wish to attend college to study agriculture and related subjects. Donations also may be made to the Hebrew Benevolent Society in care of Ellie Bernstein, 1849 Monarch Lane, Vineland NJ 08361.
