Rear Admiral David E. Ciancaglini passed away on January 24, 2017 at Sun Lakes, AZ.

The son of Emil and Vera Ciancaglini of Woodbine, NJ, he was predeceased by his wife Mona Lucinda MacCormick and survived by his daughter, Anna Ciancaglini and grandson Joshua of Woodbridge, VA, sister Barbara Leider of Woodbine, NJ and brother Joseph Ciancaglini (JoAnn) of Millville, NJ and dear companion, Kay Barnett of Sun Lakes, AZ.

Rear Admiral David E. Ciancaglini attended Millville High School and graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy class 1960. He retired from active duty in 1996 after 36 years as a Coast Guard officer. He attended Naval flight training and was a qualified pilot in fixed wing and rotary aircraft. Operational tours at eight USCG air stations. In June 1989, Rear Admiral Ciancaglini became Commander of the 17th Coast Guard District and Commander of the Maritime Defense Zone Sector Alaska. He assumed responsibilities as Naval Component Commander for the newly established Alaskan Command. In September, 1989 he was the Federal On Scene Coordinator for the Exxon Valdez oil spill until he concluded those activities in June 1992. Assigned as Assistant Chief of the Aviation branch at CG headquarters Washington, D.C. Chief operations division CG Hawaii. Deputy commander logistics command, Pacific area.

His last Coast Guard assignment was as Chief of the Office of Command, Control, Communications and Computers, responsible for the worldwide management, including involvement in all major procurements and policy decisions, of matters affecting Coast Guard C41. He also served on the Board of Trustees, U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Rear Admiral David E. Ciancaglini was awarded the Coast Guard Distinguished Service Medal for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, culminating as Chief, Office of Command, Control and Communications, U.S. Coast Guard, from 1992 to 1996. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Rear Admiral Ciancaglini culminate a long and distinguished career in the service of his country and his dedicated contributions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Coast Guard. Rear Admiral David E. Ciancaglini, was also awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States, The Meritorious Service Medal, CG Commendation Medal,

The Air Medal and numerous other awards.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Valley of the Sun Funeral Home Chapel in Chandler, AZ.

At a "to be determined" date, the combined ashes of Radm Ciancaglini and his beloved wife, Mona, will be inurned during Full Honors Funeral Ceremony at the Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium, Arlington,VA.
