Loyd M. Green Jr. Obituary
Loyd M. Green Jr., age 70, passed away Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 at the Laurels Nursing Home.

Loyd lived his entire life in Coldwater, Michigan.

Loyd was born to Loyd M. Sr. and Maxine H. Green on July 18, 1943. He graduated from Coldwater High School with the class of 1962. Loyd lived and worked his entire life at Waffle Farm, located on Craig and Morrison Lakes which are included and known as the North Chain of Lakes.

Loyd's grandmother, Myra Waffle, welcomed the first campers to Waffle Farm in 1935. The Waffle Farm has been in the family since 1861.

Since the death of Grandma Myra Waffle, and Loyd and Maxine Green, Loyd has run the camp single-handedly.

After graduating from Michigan State University with a major in agriculture and recreation, Loyd began to expand the Waffle Farm Campground by building a store and two pavilions (Loyd built the second pavilion to celebrate his 50th birthday in it), a double boat ramp and a building with a mini-putt, driving range and also added many more camping sites including the now large seasonal camp that is surrounded by water.

Thousands of campers come every summer from all over the United States, Canada and other places to enjoy camping at Waffle Farm.

When the camp was closed in the winter, Loyd worked at several other jobs such as working for the construction company that built the new Court House after the old one burned and several other buildings in Coldwater. Loyd also worked on the Grand Trunk Railroad between Battle Creek and Chicago. He was even appointed cook, which shocked his mother!

Green-Rosenberry; eight grandchildren, Nicholas (Brenda) Thomas, Tyler (Heather) Thomas, Joseph Rosenberry, Caleb Rosenberry, Morgan Thomas, Max Rosenberry, Lyndsey Boyd and Kaitlyn Denney; and two great-grandchildren, Zoe Thomas and Maddison Thomas.

They have two sons, William (Bill) David Green, who is now the new manager at Waffle Farm and Timothy Loyd Green who lives in San Diego, California. Tim has his own web production company where he hosts the wafflefarm.com website, and does most of the camp printing.

Loyd Green was one of the charter members who formed the original State Camping Association in 1968, MAPCO "Michigan Association of Private Campgrounds." The Michigan Campgrounds were then eligible to join NACO. The National Association has since changed its name to ARVC.

Loyd and Clara Belle received their Certified Park Operators from the National Association. Loyd was on the State Board for several years.

Loyd and Clara Belle did a lot of traveling each year after the camps closed for the winter. Some of their favorite places were Florida, Texas, Arizona, Alaska and San Diego, Loyd and Clara Belle also attended all of the National ARVC Conventions in several different states each year since 1976.

Other associations Loyd Green had membership in included Coldwater Sons of the American Legion, Coldwater Elks, United Commercial Travelers (UCT), Michigan Centennial Farm Association.

Additional hobbies Loyd enjoyed, were keeping abreast of everything going on in the camping industry. He loved trains and had a large collection of miniature trains and read all of his many train magazines. Loyd traveled on trains several times when going to conventions. He also enjoyed reading his many books and magazines about World War II and his business magazines.
