George M. Funk Obituary
George M. Funk, 97, of Burlington passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, after a brief illness.

George was born March 13, 1916 in Litchfield to George H. and Mary Ann (Herringshaw) Funk. He was the youngest of 6 children. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Cloyd, four sisters, Mable Stone, Ethel Halstead, Rosa Mae Hess and Iva Bingley. Also his wife of 61 years, Eleanor (Nofsinger) Funk, and a son, Roy Clare Funk.

George is survived by 2 daughters, Shirley (Pete) Clutter of Florida, Janet (Doug) Shearer of Dayton, OH and a daughter-in-law, B. J. Funk. He has 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two special nephews, Gordon Stone and Matt Funk.

George adored his family, extended family and the feeling was mutual.

Mr. Funk was a farmer all his life. He had a dairy farm, raised beef cattle and raised appaloosa horses. He also worked away from home. He worked a total of 13 years at Duo Coach in Union City as well as other part time jobs. He had a great work ethic. He was able to see all 3 children graduate from college.

Mr. Funk was connected with the Burlington Church of God for 94 years. He was active in the church serving on boards, singing bass in the choir and helping with building and maintenance projects. Most important to him was living out his personal faith in Jesus Christ.

George was also active in his community where he spent several years on the Burlington Homecoming Committee and several years on the Burlington Township Board.

You may have seen Mr. Funk as he led several parades in Union City and Burlington on his beautiful appaloosa horse, Camanche.

George Funk was a small man with a big heart. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

There will be a visitation Monday, November 18, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Putnam Funeral Home in Union City. A Celebration of Life service in memory of George will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Burlington Church of God at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Phil Palmer and Pastor David Rails officiating. Interment will follow at the Burlington Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Burlington Church of God Building Fund or Gideon's International.
