Joel L. Bartlett Obituary
Joel L. Bartlett, 74 of Union City, passed away surrounded by his friends and family Friday, Sept. 5, 2013 at his home.

He was born May 22, 1939 in Petoskey, MI to Lynn and Erma (Christiansen) Bartlett. He married Callie S. Callihan Dec. 10, 1983 in Union City, MI. She survives. Joel attended Albion College and graduated from Tri State with a degree in Engineering.

He worked for a short time at Reith/Riley, Kingscott in Kalamazoo and retired from Walker Parking Consultants. He served on the Union City Village Council for ten years, four as president. He was a member of the Union City United Methodist Church, a longtime Sunday school teacher, and was very active in his church.

Last year he and his wife took part in the Advent candle lighting service. He was a member of the Gideons, Coldwater Camp, where he was a past secretary. Joel was a member of the Model A Restorers Club, the Model A Ford Club of America and the Olivet Crank and Throttle Car Club. He loved driving his A and keeping it running. He enjoyed traveling and had traveled to the Holy Land with Callie in 1989 and twice with his grandson Cody and daughter Heather.

Joel is survived by his wife Callie, six children, Heather (Randy) Carter of Union City, MI, Melanie Bartlett of Union City, Holly (John Blaskie) Bartlett of Union City, Janice (Jeremy) Gauss of Union City, Shane Hodge, DO of Wilkesboro, NC and David (Samantha) Hodge of Wyoming, MI, seven grandchildren Jordan (Janice) Green, Cody Carter, Makayla Gauss, Braedon Hodge, Graham Hodge, Daniel Blaskie and Julianna Blaskie.

Also, one brother Charles Bartlett of Union City and his caregiver and buddy, Tim Hess of Union City. He was predeceased by his parents, an infant brother, Paul and two cousins.

Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 PM at the Putnam Funeral Home in Union City. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Union City United Methodist Church. Pastor Andy Baek and Pastor David Brown will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Union City. Memorial contributions may be given to Senior Respite Care, Pines Behavioral, Gideons International or the Union City United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
