Virginia Lee Solt Rieck, R.N., 89, widow of Walter Robert Rieck, of 6492 Liberty Corners Road, Towanda, Asylum Twp., Pa., passed away early Wednesday morning, May 1, 2013, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.
Virginia was born Oct. 20, 1923 in Clearfield, Pa., the daughter of the late Lee Cyrus Solt and Edith Pearl Passmore Solt. She was a graduate of Bellefonte High School Class of 1941. Virginia received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the Harrisburg General Hospital School of Nursing and completed post graduate work in obstetrics at the Jersey City Medical Center. She was proud of her service in the Army Nurses Corps and later served as clinical instructor in obstetrics at Elizabeth General Hospital. Virginia received her Master's Degree in Nursing from Mansfield University. On June 12, 1954, she married Walter Robert Rieck in Bellefonte, Pa. Virginia served as school nurse for the Towanda Middle School for 17 years until her retirement.
Virginia was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wellsburg N.Y. In earlier years she was active in the Liberty Corners United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday school superintendent and director of the Methodist Youth Fellowship. Virginia was an avid Penn State Football and Duke University Basketball fan and enjoyed reading.

Rebekah Lee Fedullo and husband Dr. Peter Fedullo of San Diego, Calif., Donna Lynn Johnston and husband Rex Johnston of Athens, Pa., Linda Lou Thurston and husband Brian Thurston of Athens, Pa.; grandchildren Jennifer Dinelli Rice and husband Clinton Rice of Towanda, Pa., Louis J. Dinelli III. and wife Sarah Dinelli of Broadlands, Va., Phillip Walter Shamoun and wife Blaire of Milford, Ohio, Luke Baxley of San Diego, Calif., Timothy Baxley of Fort Drum, N.Y., James "Hank" Baxley of San Diego, Calif., Joshua John Thurston and wife Jessica of Rochester, N.Y., Rachel Jeannine Thurston of Athens, Pa.; great grandchildren
Virginia, Anna, Lily and Abigail Rice, Rebekah and Alyssa Dinelli and Lilly Shamoun; sister-in-law, Eleanor Solt of Bellefonte, Pa.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Walter Robert Rieck on Jan. 10, 2012, a sister, Marjorie Solt and brother, Lee Franklin "Bud" Solt.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home 217 York Ave. Towanda, Pa., with Pastor Larry Scouten of the First Baptist Church, Wellsburg, N.Y., officiating.
Interment will follow in the Liberty Corners Cemetery, Monroe Twp., Pa. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to the First Baptist Church, Wellsburg, N.Y. in Virginia Lee Solt Rieck's memory.
