Hartman, Kathryn Elizabeth Brobst "Kay"  
Kathryn Elizabeth "Kay" Brobst Hartman, 99, of 225 Poplar St., Towanda, Pa., passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015, at her home. "Kay" as she was known by her family and friends was born on June 15, 1915, in Bloomsburg, Pa., the daughter of Harry E. and Ruth A. Aul Brobst. Kay was a graduate of Bloomsburg High School and a 1936 graduate of Bloomsburg State Teachers College where she received her Bachelor of Science degree. On July 31, 1943, she married Paul L. Hartman at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Bloomsburg. Mrs. Hartman taught elementary education for five years in Bethel Township, Berks County, Pa., and 24 years for the Towanda Area School District until her retirement in July of 1977. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Church Women, Vesper Guild, Alter Guild, Twentieth Century Club, Alpha Zeta Chapter of the Delta Zappa Gamma Society International, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Bloomsburg Alumni Association and was a 70 year member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 76, Towanda. Kay enjoyed the arts, attending musical concerts and plays with friends, as well as offering her own artistic skills in creating crafts with the women's craft group at Trinity Lutheran Church. Kay also loved playing cards with two card clubs throughout her years in Towanda. A source of much enjoyment for Kay following her retirement was the opportunity to travel to several countries. Most important to Kay was sharing time and holiday celebrations with her family. When she was not enjoying the company of her family, her church family became her focus. Kay continued to serve the church in many capacities until the time of her passing. Surviving are: her son, Richard P. Hartman of Sayre; daughter, Debra J. Hartman of Harrisburg; grandson, Mark R. Hartman and wife Lilly of Mass.; granddaughter, Molly J. Hartman of Sayre; sister-in-law, LaVerne Brobst of Tennessee; brother-in-law, Stuart "Bud" Hartman of Danville, Pa.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a very close family friend, Johnna Seeton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Paul, on April 7, 1995; an infant son, Norman D. Hartman; sister, Jane A. Brobst and daughter-in-law, Susan Rockrohr Hartman. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Towanda, Pa., with Pastor Jira Albers officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Towanda, Pa. There are no calling hours. A luncheon for family and friends will be held at the church following the interment service. Hoffa, Bessie Irene (Arbogast)  
On the morning of Monday, May 25, 2015, Canton resident Bessie Irene (Arbogast) Hoffa passed away quietly at Bradford County Manor. She was 96 years of age. Born March 2, 1919 in Spencertown (Union Township) Tioga County, Pa., she was the daughter of Jacob and Edna (Allen) Arbogast. For many years Bessie was employed as a machine operator for the former Swayze Folding Box Company in Canton. In 1955 she married Edwin Hoffa. Bessie and Ed were inseparable, and during the next 60 years shared time together fishing, raising Thanksgiving turkeys and motorcycling. Bessie was an active member of the Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) where she and Ed, like the Levites of Biblical times, voluntarily tended to the custodial needs of the Lord's House. Bessie was also known as a great cook, and enjoyed cooking for large groups, such as the Canton High School girls' volleyball team. She had also been a member of the Canton Lady Rebekahs. Bessie always considered the feelings of others and placed the needs of others before her own. She made it a point to live each day by the Golden Rule. She is survived by her husband, Ed, at home; special friends, Sharon Alexander and Sheila Wesneski of Canton; nieces, Virginia Black of Blossburg, Cindy Evans of Canton and JoAnn Day of Elmira; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harry, Clifford and Nathan Arbogast; sisters, Catherine Johnson and Viola Conn; niece, Barbara Mix; and nephews, Richard and Robert Arbogast. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 30 at the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) in Canton. The service will be at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bonnie Browning officiating. Interment will follow in Beech Flats Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers and suggests that contributions in Bessie's name be directed to the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ). Professional services have been entrusted to Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, Inc., 94 N. Center St., Canton.

Hoffa, Thomas Robert  
Thomas Robert Hoffa, 59, of Oriskany, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2015, at the Siegenthaler Center, in New Hartford, N.Y. Tom was born Oct. 2, 1955, at the Loring A.F.B. in Limestone, Maine, a son of Stella Sitas Hoffa and the late Robert Eugene Hoffa. He graduated from the Oriskany High School, a member of the class of 1973. He attended a technical school and was the greenkeeper at Domenico's Golf Course, Whitesboro, N.Y. for over 30 years. Tom enjoyed working on cars, gardening, and was a stamp and coin collector. Tom was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Hartford, N.Y. Surviving are: his mother, Stella Hoffa of Oriskany, N.Y.; a sister, Barbara (Robert) Johnson of Oriskany, N.Y.; a nephew, Brandon E. Scalise of Oriskany, N.Y. He was predeceased by his father, Robert E. Hoffa, on April 15, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA 18614, with the Rev. Phyllis A. Pelletier, pastor of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Mildred, Pa. Family and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the Homer Funeral Home. Hughes, Kathleen A.  
Kathleen A. Hughes, 64, of Sayre, PA passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015. She was born on March 11, 1951 in Binghamton, NY the daughter of the late Raymond C. Murphy and Mother Frances Lynch Murphy. Kathleen graduated from Northeast Bradford High School and also received her BS Degree in Elementary Education from Bloomsburg University and Masters of Science in Reading from Elmira College. She was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church. She was a teacher for 36 years and taught in the Athens Area School District for 34 years, retiring in 2010. She was an avid researcher of her family genealogy. She was an enthusiastic bridge and card player. Kathleen enjoyed communicating with her friends on her computer. She enjoyed traveling and time spent in The Villages in Florida. Kathleen is predeceased by her father Raymond C. Murphy and a sister Jane Murphy. She is survived by her husband Raymond Hughes; daughter Elaine Hughes; her Mother Frances Murphy; sisters Joan Mesaris and Theresa Friloux; brother Michael Murphy; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends and Family may call on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Church of the Epiphany, 304 South Elmer Ave, Sayre, PA with Father Brian Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
