Betty Jean Morningstar, 81, of 117 Lilly Ave., Sayre, Pa. went home to be with the Lord peacefully at her home where she was born and lived most of her life on Sunday afternoon, April 13, 2014, following an extended illness.
Betty was born on July 26, 1932, the daughter of Fred and Pauline Vought Bowman. She was a graduate of Athens High School, where she was a Majorette and in early years was employed by the former Pages Department Store in Sayre, Philadelphia Sales in Waverly, Paluzzis in Sayre, and the Super store in Athens. Betty also cleaned homes for families in the valley area for many years. Betty "Boop" as she was affectionately called, loved life and treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her beloved niece Judy Oropello. A caring and sharing person, Betty always placed the interest and benefit of others before her own. She enjoyed riding motorcycle and golfing with her husband of 63 years Cecil, opening tickets at the VFW
, bowling, cooking, sewing, watching her favorite game shows, playing cards and caring for animals, including all the neighborhood strays. Betty was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching tennis, the New England Patriots, NASCAR and was a follower of Jeff Bodine's and Jeff Gordon's racing careers. She will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her. Betty attended the First Church of God in Sayre.
Surviving are her children, Pamela Jean Lane and husband Donald of Sheshequin, Cecil Morningstar Jr. and wife Suanne of Ulster, Susan Keir and husband William of Sheshequin; grandchildren, Marlene Marshall, Kristin Wales and husband Andy, Kyle Eddy, Bryon Morningstar and wife Marleta, Julie Hadlock and husband Ron, Jennifer Kelsall and husband Jamey, William Keir II, Isaac Keir and wife Anna, Amy Keir; step-grandchildren Tabitha Wagner and Eric Lane; great-grandchildren, Marissa, Nathan, Delia, Keegan, Cayden, Lilyanna, Liam, Andrew, Rachel, Delaney, Cody, Lily and Adrian; her sister, Millie Wallin of Maine; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil W. Morningstar on Feb. 2, 2013; and her sister Donna Piatt.
Abiding with Betty's request there will be no calling hours or funeral service. The family suggests that contributions may be directed to the
