Catherine Ellen Burnett

Catherine Ellen Burnett, 105, Formerly of Elmira Street Troy, passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at Twin Oaks Personal Care Home, Granville Summit.

Family and friends are invited to call from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 at the Gerald W. Vickery Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 1093 West Main St., Troy. Catherine's funeral and committal service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 5 p.m. with Reverend Rich Noggle officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Troy.

Catherine was born July 10, 1907 in Delhi, N.Y. daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah (Jackson) Burnett.

She graduated from Troy High School in 1925, Mansfield Normal School in 1927 and after several summer sessions from Mansfield State Teachers College in 1943.

Catherine's dedication to education spanned 39 years. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse on Fallbrook Road in Troy, East Troy Elementary School and in the Troy Elementary Schools.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Troy, National Education Association, Troy Grange and was a life member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Anna Mae Burnett of Troy; a niece, Carol Palermo of Wilmington, Del.; three nephews, Robert Burnett of Troy, Thomas Burnett of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Dale Burnett of Troy; and great nieces and nephews.

Her parents and her brother Andrew Burnett predeceased her.

Memorials in her memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Troy, 205 Reddington Avenue, Troy PA 16947, and the Troy Alan F. Pierce Library or to the Scholarship Fund at Mansfield University.
