Dawn M. Chamberlain, 65, of Troy, Pa., beloved wife of Bradley, ended her courageous battle with cancer on Sunday evening, Nov. 17, 2013, at the Gatehouse in Williamsport, Pa.
Born on June 23, 1948, in Waltham, Mass. Dawn grew up in an Air Force family of three children of the late Janice (Wetherbee) and Miles "Mike" Merritt. She was a member of Troy High School's class of 1966 where she enjoyed her studies and was exceptional as the band's drum majorette and twirler of two fire batons. Dawn continued her education at Mansfield State College, earning a Bachelors of Arts degree in 1970 and her teaching certificate in 1971. On July 31, 1971, Dawn married Bradley Chamberlain. Most recently, she was employed by Hoover's Hardware in Troy for 18 years.
Dawn's faith in the Lord guided her life. As a young woman, she was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Alba and then the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) of Canton. Dawn had a beautiful singing voice and loved being a member of her church choirs. She and Brad enjoyed many early years of performing together in several dance bands, Dawn the lead vocal and Brad on drums. She also was a featured vocalist at many Christmas musicals, Lions Club minstrel shows and other special events.
A loving and supportive person, she cherished her family and friends. Dawn traveled throughout the U.S. during her life and was especially interested in revisiting and connecting with old friends. She also enjoyed reading and following sports, especially football. Her devoted dogs were members of her family too; one could find them dressed in Halloween costumes and outfits to support her favorite football team.
Surviving her is her loving husband of 42 years, Brad; three daughters, Karyn Chamberlain (Ingvar Vining) of Alexandria Va., Robyn Chamberlain of Troy and Marisa Chamberlain of Alexandria, Va.; a brother and sister, Rick (Mary Jane) Merritt of Elmira and Sheree Ripley (Frank Chrzan) of Troy; her mother-in-law, Donna Chamberlain of Springfield; sister-in-law, Cindy (John) Yellenic of Canton; aunts, uncles, cousins, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many very special friends.
She was predeceased by her father-in-law, Duane Chamberlain.
Family and friends are invited to call from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) of Canton.
