Elfriede DiMarcontonio

Elfriede DiMarcontonio, 82, of Luthers Mills passed away peacefully at Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa. on Feb. 14, 2013.

She was born May 21, 1930 in Marberzell, Germany, a daughter of Richard and Anna Von Eiff Maul. She met the love of her life Sergeant Domenick DiMarcontonio when he was stationed in Germany during World War II in the U.S. Army. They married in Marbach, Germany on June 27, 1949. After a ship ride to the United States (her honeymoon during which she was continuously seasick), they came to live with Domenick's parents, Frank and Anita DiMarcontonio for a year in the Philadelphia area. She brought her parents and sister to America. Later the couple moved and made their permanent home in Towanda, Pa. They celebrated 50 years of marriage until Domenick passed away on May 15, 2000. They had never returned to Germany and had a trip planned. Domenick died shortly before the visit was scheduled. The message here is don't wait too long!

"Freda" was a homemaker and had a fierce love of her family. There was nothing too difficult to accomplish when it came to her husband or children's welfare. She toiled endlessly and selflessly sewing, knitting, crocheting, canning, cooking, refinishing furniture, hammering, and performing other assorted interests directed to caring for her family.

Freda and Domenick enjoyed camping in their motor home with the company of their grandchildren Derek and Becky. These two grandchildren were the lights of their lives. They belonged to the VFW, American Legion and various other service related organizations where they could dance. Floors would clear just to watch their accomplished dancing skills.

Freda is survived by daughter Anita and son-in-law David Bennett, daughter Lisa and son-in-law Daniel Bailey; grandson Derek Bailey; granddaughter Becky and grandson-in-law JT McKernan; great-grandson Jayden McKernan; sister Ilse Loller; brother-in-law Americo DiMarcontonio; sister-in-law Florence MacClaskey; sister-in-law Lorraine Giampa; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat Mr. Boots, who is in the good care of Derek.

Freda is pre-deceased by her husband Domenick DiMarcontonio; sister Hilda Schmitt; and brother Hans Maul.

Freda was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and belonged to the Willing Workers.

Funeral arrangements are private under the direction of Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, Towanda, Pa. and Pastor Jira Albers.
