Fred A. Rumsey

Fred A. Rumsey, 64, of Shunk, Pa., formerly of Troy, passed away on Friday morning, May 2, 2014, at the Troy Community Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.

Fred was born on June 24, 1949 in Elmira, N.Y., one of three children to the late Emery Earl and Marjorie (Kittle) Rumsey. He was a 1968 graduate of Troy High School, where he excelled in Trojan wrestling. Renowned as "The Magnificent Rumsey," he was inducted into the THS Hall of Fame in 1982.

Fred was employed at Blossburg's Ward Foundry for 33 years until retiring in 2011. He was a member of the Canton and Morris Run American Legions. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman and also loved all types of auto racing. In earlier years, Fred built cars with Ray and Ronnie McClure.

Surviving are his children Rebecca (Ralph) Lees of Hector, N.Y., Robert E. (Barbara) Rumsey of Newport, Va., William E. Rumsey of Ithaca, N.Y., David E. and Bryan L. Rumsey, both of Shunk; nine grandchildren; a sister Gayle Chase of Covington; a life-long friend Gloria Gates of Alba; many friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his brother, Earl Rumsey and brother-in-law, John "Jack" Chase.
