Harold A. "Rip" Shoemaker

Harold "Rip" A. Shoemaker, 87, of Athens, formerly of Phoenixville, passed away on Nov. 22, 2012.

He was born on Feb. 26, 1925 in Towanda, the son of Arthur and Lucille Eilenberger Shoemaker. Harold worked as a draftsman for 30 years with General Electric in Valley Forge. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. Harold was an avid fisherman, enjoyed gardening, and loved to travel. He was a member of the Elks, V.F.W. Skiff-Bower Post No. 1536, American Legion Post No. 246, and the World War II Memorial Friends Organization.

He is predeceased by his first wife Joyce McCloskey Shoemaker, and grandsons Alan Mowery and James T. Watson.

Harold is survived by his wife, Joan Chandler Tuttle Shoemaker; children Barbara Kline (Doug) Achuff of Pottstown, Karl Shoemaker of Phoenixville, Kristy-Jo (Monty) Croman of Harrisburg, Karen (Eugene) Mowery of Holtwood, Kurtis (Marilyn) Shoemaker of Omaha, Nebr., Jane (James) Watson of Sayre, Ann (Les) Freeman of Granville Summit and Timothy (Karen) Tuttle of Greene, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister Ruth Evans of Nichols, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main St., Athens. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. the funeral home at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens following the memorial service.
