Harry Chilson Jr., 81, of Lake Road, Towanda, Pa., passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.
Harry was born at home in Asylum Township, Pa. on Oct. 15, 1932, the son of Harry Chilson Sr. and Irene Jennings Chilson. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War
. Harry was a self-employed general contractor in the area for over 40 years. He was a former member of Towanda American Legion Post No. 42. Harry greatly enjoyed celebrating the Fourth of July holiday with family and friends and attending the Bloomsburg Fair every year. He also enjoyed the outdoors and working around his home and property.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, LeRoy E. and Billie Chilson of Towanda; caregiver and loving sister, Beverly Dunn of Towanda; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and friend, Rhonda "Lee" Folsom. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Esther M. Chilson on July 22, 2011, and by his brothers, Francis L. Chilson, James A. Chilson and Richard Chilson.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at the funeral home with Pastor Timothy Geiger officiating. Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 will accord military honors Tuesday morning at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Standing Stone Cemetery, Standing Stone Twp., Pa.
