James Donald "Big Jim" Wygrala, 71, of 1756 Laning Creek Rd., Towanda, Pa., Wysox Township, passed away Sunday morning, April 6, 2014 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born at home at Skinner's Eddy, Braintrim Township, Pa., on June 6, 1942, the son of Emil W. and Marie Martha Szukalski Wygrala. He attended the Wyalusing Schools and later served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War. On Jan. 31, 1969, Jim married the former Jean Snell at the First United Methodist Church in Towanda. Jim was employed by Masonite Corporation in Wysox for 37 years until his retirement in 2003. During his retirement years, Jim and Jean enjoyed extensive traveling with their motorcycle taking trips to the Western and New England States and visiting friends. Jim loved spending time with his family, being outdoors on the mountain, riding motorcycle, four-wheeling, cutting and selling firewood and woodworking. Jim made many friends over the years and will be remembered for his love of life and congenial personality.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years Jean Wygrala; children Shannon Chilson and husband Randy of Sayre, Shawna Klinger and husband Rex of Towanda, Jamie Hughes of Towanda; grandchildren Ashley and Evan Hughes; sister Katy Vanderpool of Laceyville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Elsie and Michael Fraboni of Arizona as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Charles Vanderpool.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday April 9, 2014 at 5 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 will accord military honors at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
