James Joseph McMahon, age 80, of New Albany, Pa., passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at the Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa.
Jim was born July 30, 1933, in Dushore, Pa., a twin son of the late Leonard A. (Happy) McMahon and Anna J. Perdishun McMahon. He graduated from St. Basil's High School a member of the class of 1952. He served in the Korean War
in the Navy CBs from 1953 to 1957. After returning from the war, he married the former Pauline Hugo of New Albany on Oct. 26, 1957. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary last October.
Jim began working delivering fuel oil for Browning Oil Company of New Albany and later was employed as an electrician at GTE Sylvania for over 30 years, retiring in 1995.
Jim was a member of St. Basil's Church in Dushore, Pa., and a member of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion, Dushore, Pa., and a member of the GTE Sylvania Quarter Century Club. Jim also served over 10 years as a member of the Wyalusing School Board.
Surviving Jim are his sons, Royce (LuAnn) McMahon of Rochester, N.Y., Russell (Michele) McMahon of Wyalusing, Pa.; daughters, Nadine McMahon (Sal Dabetta) of Wyoming, Pa., Celinda (Anthony) Crawford of Hagerstown, Md.; sister, Mary Lou Klem of Dushore, Pa.; sisters-in-law, Joan McMahon of Dushore, Pa., Ann McMahon of Pennsdale, Pa., Bernice (Art) Yonkin of Dushore, Pa., Doris Hugo of New Albany, Pa., Virginia Hugo of New Albany, Pa.; brother-in-law, Harold C. Rider of Eagles Mere, Pa.; four grandchildren, Preston Crawford, Connor Crawford, Ashton McMahon Martin and Shawn McMahon; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a twin brother, John L. (Jack) McMahon on April 7, 2000; and brothers-in-law, Michael Klem on Aug. 12, 2013, Kenneth Hugo, March 6, 2002, and Howard Hugo, June 6, 2004; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Rider, Sept. 29, 2006.
A transferal service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, Pa., and will be followed by a mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Basil's Church, Dushore, Pa., with the Rev. Edward L. Michelini, presiding. Interment will be in St. Basil's Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, Dushore.
Graveside military services will be accorded by member of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion, Dushore, Pa. Members are asked to assemble and pass in review at 7 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home.
