Jane C. Wheeler

On Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 lifelong Canton resident Jane (Crist) Wheeler passed away quietly at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre with her beloved family and friends at her side. She was 88 years of age.

Born in Canton Borough on July 24, 1924, she was a daughter of Floyd M. and Kathryn (Hallinan) Crist. She was a graduate of Canton High School, Class of 1942, and was married to her hometown sweetheart, Harold "Pete" Wheeler on Sept. 1, 1945. Together they raised a son and two daughters and shared 53 years until Pete's passing in March of 1999.

For most of her life Jane was a very active person who enjoyed bowling, music, dancing and playing bridge. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed spending time with her family and her beloved dog, Maggie. She was also a woman of great faith, and was a communicant of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Canton. She drew upon that faith as a source of courage and solace during life's trials.

Jane is survived by her son, Curt Wheeler; and daughter Cheryl Wheeler of Canton and daughter Nora Wheeler of Dunkirk, N.Y.; as well as grandchildren Talia and Tyrell and great-grandchildren Ashton and Isabella. She was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Kathryn Crist; husband Pete Wheeler and twin sister Jean Leahy.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at St. Michael's Church, Canton. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Fr. Michael McCormick as celebrant. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. The family will provide the flowers and suggests that memorial contributions be directed to the of the hospice of one's choice. Professional services have been entrusted to Morse & Kleese Funeral Home.
