Jean E. Rowe

Jean E. Rowe, 89, of Sayre, Pa. passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

Jean was born in Duryea, Pa. on Feb. 9, 1925, the daughter of James W. and Adeline Bartuska Rittell. She was a graduate of Towanda High School and later on April 12, 1947 Jean married Ray Thurston Rowe in Towanda, Pa. Jean served as manager of the Robert Packer Hospital Snack Bar for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the Athens Senior Citizens and the Seniors Bowling League at Penn York Lanes in Waverly, N.Y.

Surviving are her children, Barbara West of Sayre, Larry Rowe and wife Betty of Milan, Alan Rowe of Milan; grandchildren, Mia Everts and husband Toby of Sayre, Melissa Fox and husband Ray of Sayre, Nathan Rowe and fiancée Alyssa Wimsott of Milan; a great-granddaughter, Toccara Elizabeth; sisters, Alice Grenell of Towanda, Marion Davidson and husband Wayne of Towanda, Theresa Kingsley and husband George of Granville Summit, Anna Price of Lounsberry, N.Y., Lucille Watkins and husband Francis of Powell, Pa.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Thurston Rowe on Feb. 18, 1996; sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Edwin Shaffer; brothers-in-law, John Grenell, William Heatwole and Ted Price.

Abiding with Jean's request, there will be no funeral service or calling hours. Interment will be private in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, Pa. The family suggests that contributions may be directed to Greater Valley EMS, 904 N. Lehigh Ave., Sayre, PA 18840 or to the Athens Township Volunteer Fire Department, 211 Herrick Ave., Sayre, PA 18840 in Jean E. Rowe's memory.
