On the afternoon of Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, Joseph Stanley Kilmer of Canton passed away quietly after a period of declining health. He was 82 years of age.
Born in Wheelerville, Pa. on April 6, 1930, he was a son of Jacob and Lena (Ayres) Kilmer. Mr. Kilmer served our country with the US Army during the Korean War
. In civilian life, he was a sheet metal worker with the Marathon Heater Company in Richford, N.Y. Mr. Kilmer had been a member of the Canton Moose Lodge No. 429, Canton VFW
Post No. 716, and the Antique Tractor Club. He enjoyed camping, hunting, horseshoes, cards, dancing and going to yard sales. He was the most easy-going person you'd ever met; non-judgemental with never a bad word about anyone. He loved to laugh and enjoy life and took pride in the accomplishments of his children. His family was everything to him and they were by his side when he left this world.
Joseph is survived by his step-son Lee (Lee) Stone of Florida; daughters Mary (Glen) Bushmaker of Walled Lake, Mich., Tamie (Shaun) Esasias of Montana, Paula (Jeff) Cooke of New Port Richey, Fla., Penny (Kevin) Rood of Columbia Cross Roads; step-daughter Barbara (LaVerne) Spencer of Canton; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers Neil (Laura) Kilmer of Beavers Dam, N.Y., James (Frieda) Kilmer of Willingboro, N.J.; sisters Faye Smith of Wheelerville and Phyllis (Gordon) Mitchell of Oregon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandsons Terry Spencer and Chad Castle, son Joseph Kilmer, wife Geraldine Kilmer and several sisters and brothers.
Calling hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11 at Morse and Kleese Funeral Home, 94 N. Center St., Canton. Funerals services will be at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Blackall officiating. Internment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Troy.
