Loretta Ann Wood, 75, of Canton, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 14, 2013 at her home following an extended illness. Loretta was born in Sayre, on March 16, 1937 the daughter of Albert Joseph Pedro and Olive Josbena Pedro. She attended New Albany High School and Grossmont College in San Diego, Calif.. In early years, Loretta was employed in garment manufacturing in the area and later owned and operated Loretta's Sub Shop in Canton for over 10 years. Loretta was well known for her gift as a quilt maker and her talent as a seamstress. She shared many of her fine quilts with family and friends over the years. Her love for raising and caring for children was paramount in her life and her children and grandchildren always came first. She enjoyed fishing and taking trips to Canada, cooking, canning and caring for her flowers and vegetable garden. She will be deeply missed. Loretta was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Canton.
Surviving are her devoted husband of 59 years, Alfred J. Wood whom she married on Jan. 30, 1954 in New Albany; her children, Laura Jean Wood Perez of Radford, Kent., Larry Jay Wood and wife Wanda Lee of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Matthew Moyle Wood and wife Angela of Williamstown, N.Y., 10 grandchildren, Amanda Parker, Julana Blankenship, Jessica Cressey, Jennifer Crain, Jaymes Crain, Staci Rigby, Brooke Wood, Josephine Marois, Joseph Korthas and Christina Korthas; 12 great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Loretta Pedro of Hughesville; sisters-in-law, Barbara Pedro of Troy, Anita Pedro of Luthers Mills, Betty Pedro of New Albany; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Anthony "Tony" Pedro, Albert Pedro and Rudolph "Rudy" Pedro.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 at the Faith Baptist Church, Canton, with Pastor John Lattimer officiating.
