Michael "Brownie" Brown

My best friend and husband Michael, Brownie to most, left us to be with the lord on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.

Michael was born on May 23, 1956, in Elmira, N.Y. and resided in South Waverly. He was the son of Mary (Simmons) Ward and (the late) Richard Brown.

Michael was known to most as a man who loved to fish and when anyone needed anything done he was there and did it without being asked and never expected anything in return.

He is survived by his wife, Polly Steele Brown; children Scott, Kim, Tami and Steven; grandchildren Jada, Kendi, Malaikah, Qad'r, Amaya and Brody; parents Mary and Yogi Simmons; sisters Cindy (Ken) Wilson, Cathy (Leonard) Dodge and Robin (Kirt) Jilson; brothers, Danny (Dee) Brown and Bobby Simmons; mother and father-in-law Dorothy and Paul Steele; sisters-in-law, Edie (Bill Driscoll and Pat (Keith) Strouble; brother-in-law Joe (Bonnie) Steele; his pet children, Bobby, Pumpkin and Elmer; special friends and cohorts, Ron and Karen Fraley; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, fishing and golf buddies. He was predeceased by his father, sons Todd and James, and a brother Dickie.

At his request there will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18 at the Waverly United Methodist Church, 158 Chemung St., Waverly, N.Y., with a social gathering to follow in the fellowship hall to celebrate his life, share stories and memories. The Rev. Anne Bey Canfield will officiate.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Nancy Quattrini Patient Assistance Program, c/o Guthrie Clinic Sayre, Pa 18840 or Guthrie Hospice, 421 Tomahawk Rd., Towanda, PA 18848. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McKee Memorial Chapel, Waverly, N.Y.
