Pete Anthony Alesky Jr., 67, of Franklin Township, Bradford County, passed away of natural causes Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012 at Memorial Hospital, Towanda, following a motor vehicle accident earlier in the day. Pete was born and raised in Harford Township, Susquehanna County, on April 29, 1945 the son of Peter Anthony Alesky Sr. and Gertrude Viola Allen Alesky. He was a graduate of Mountain View High School class of 1963 and later served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War. On Oct. 23, 1971 he married the former Eileen Mikolon and the couple moved to Bradford County in 1989. Pete was employed by Proctor & Gamble for many years until his retirement in 1998. Pete and Eileen owned and operated the Quarter Acre Farm in Franklin Township where they enjoyed raising registered quarter horses and angus cattle for more than 30 years and champion registered redbone dogs. Pete was well-known as a buyer, seller, farrier and appraiser of horses and his equine business produced extensive traveling in the western states. He also served as a judge for 4H and open horse shows over the years. Pete possessed great love for his family, farm, horses and the outdoors. He was the current president of the Towanda Area School Board having been a member since 2007 and was former president and national director of the Pennsylvania High School Rodeo. Pete served as a 4H leader for 13 years and was a former scout leader for Troop No. 98 in Harford.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Eileen Alesky at home; children, Chad Alesky of Monroeton, Kyleen (Jake) Littlefield of Devine, Texas and Joann Alesky Lynch of Franklin, N.Y.; granddaughters, Ashley and Leslie Lynch of Franklin, N.Y.; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Bea Alesky of Great Bend; sister-in-law, Barbara Alesky of Gibson; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Alesky.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with Pastor Jira Albers of Trinity Lutheran Church, Towanda and Pastor Doug Brenneman officiating. Interment will follow in the Alesky Family Cemetery, Franklin Twp., with Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 according full military honors. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday and from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
