Donald E. Leavenworth 79, of 322 Poplar St., Towanda, Pa., passed away Friday morning, Dec. 7, 2012 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Memorial Hospital, N. Towanda Twp., Pa.

Born in Sayre, Pa. on Oct. 9, 1933, he was a son of Arthur and Vera Overpeck Leavenworth.
Don spent his early years growing up in Herrickville and was a graduate of Wyalusing High School. He was employed by GTE Sylvania in Towanda for over 30 years until his retirement.
Don was a member of the Towanda Elks Lodge and the Towanda Gun Club. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Redskins fan.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gregg and Dorothy Leavenworth of Elmira, N.Y.; granddaughter Rachael Cierniakoski and husband Ron of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; sisters Janice Palmer of Stoughton, Wis. and Ellen Wilson of Wyalusing, Pa.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife M. Jane Parsons Leavenworth on Sept. 12, 2009 and brother John Leavenworth.
The funeral service will be held at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa.
Interment will be in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pa.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
