Donald L. Leighton Sr., 77, of Powell, Pa., passed away Monday evening, Sept. 23, 2013, at his home following declining health.

Donald was born in Ypsilanti, Mich., on Aug. 6, 1936, the son of Albert and Catherine Millage Leighton. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Army.

On May 23, 1959, he married the former Marjorie Ann Dunn in Monroeton, Pa. In early years Donald was employed by the Bradco Supply Company and was later employed by State Aggregates for over 35 years until his retirement. Donald was a member of Towanda American Legion Post No. 42, Beirne-Webster VFW Post No. 1568, Towanda, and the Monroeton Rod & Gun Club. Donald enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going for rides on the mountain, hunting, fishing and gardening.

Surviving are his children, Donna Eddy and husband Gary, Diane Leighton, Pam Johnson and husband Charlie, Donnie Leighton Jr.; grandchildren, Stacy Barnes and husband Daniel, Charles Johnson Jr., Brett Johnson, great grandchildren, Kaleb and Evie Barnes; sisters, Cathy Swartz and husband Wayne, Delores Carson; brothers, James Leighton and Richard Leighton; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Ann Leighton, on July 23, 1996; a sister, Yvonne Smiley; and a broather, Gerald Leighton.

The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave. Towanda, Pa., with Rev. James Hollister, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Towanda, officiating. Interment will follow in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pa., with Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 according full military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
