Doris Oliver Van De Mark, age 88 of Sugar Run, Pa., passed away on Saturday evening, March 23, 2013 at the Celtic Hospice in Dunmore, Pa., after a short illness.

Doris was born on Jan. 11, 1925 in New York City, the daughter of the late John and Lucretia Conant Oliver.

She was a graduate of Wyalusing High School class of 1943. She also attended the Grant Hill Elementary School.

Doris worked at the EJ Shoe Factory in Mildred, Pa., and the American Meter in Wyalusing, Pa. In addition, she worked at local restaurants including the Wyalusing Rocks Restaurant, the Wyalusing Hotel, the Chataway Restaurant and Mark's Valley View. While working at the Wyalusing Hotel she was recognized by the New Yorker magazine for her delicious chocolate pie.

She was a member of the Hollenback United Methodist Church, where she was recognized for her years of service to the church, the United Methodist Women and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed her Thursday morning coffee at Momma D's in Wyalusing with her friends. Doris was very well known around the community for her ability to bake and cook. Most importantly she enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Doris is survived by her daughter Sherelle Mapes of Wyalusing; her sons Loran Van De Mark of Sugar Run and Randy Van De Mark of Sugar Run; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Romeyn Van De Mark, her son Lonnie Van De Mark, and her son-in-law Larry Mapes.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Hollenback United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dale Russell of the church officiating. Following the memorial service, a luncheon will be served at the church hall for family and friends to gather for a time of remembrance. Interment will precede the memorial service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, at the Wyalusing Cemetery.

Arrangements were made through Sheldon Funeral Homes, Main Street, Laceyville, Pa.
