H. Kent Mitchell III, 68, of Athens, passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2013 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

Kent was born on Oct. 20, 1944 in Troy, the son of Henry Kent Mitchell Jr. and Alberta Vandiver Mitchell. He attended Troy High School and was valedictorian of the class of 1963. After high school, Kent attended the University of Cincinnati. On Oct. 15, 1995 Kent married Lynn Lovell in Covert Township.
Kent worked at Main Link in Towanda as a peer mentor and supervisor and also as an art instructor. Kent was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Towanda. He was also a charter member of Main Link.
Kent was a prolific artist and especially enjoyed oil painting. He loved anything French, particularly their art and literature. He often read books written in French as a hobby. Kent also enjoyed painting pictures of the photographs he and his wife took while visiting France two years ago.
Kent is survived by his wife, Lynn; sisters, Martha Biehle and Florence Powell; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rose and George Lovell; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Holly and Kevin Keegan; nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews; his two dogs, Otto and Greta; and his cat Maggie.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Polly and his brother Tom.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at the Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home, 314 Desmond St., Sayre, with Pastor Nelson Kopatz officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be private in Oak Hill Cemetery, Troy.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Stray Haven Humane Society, 194 Shepard Rd, Waverly, NY 14892, in Kent's memory.
