Born in Canton on Dec. 10, 1919, Harry Marshall was a son of the late Harry and Ruby Jane (Decker) Hoffa. On May 23, 1944, he married the former Clara Marie Wood. They shared 61 years of marriage and raised two daughters.

Mr. Hoffa served a distinguished military career during WWII as a Tech Sergeant with the U.S. Army's 99th Troop Carrier Squadron where he participated in seven major European Theatre campaigns spanning from D-Day through the end of the war. Blessed with good health throughout his life, Marshall remained vital and active. In addition to being very knowledgeable of nature and of old time ways, he was artistic and was a talented wood craftsman. Although a private person, he enjoyed doing many things. Trips to Armenia Mountain were special to him, especially near Lambs Lookout. He was an accomplished hunter, angler, gunsmith and marksman who hunted deer throughout the 2013 season with riffle, muzzleloader and a new crossbow. Marshall also chopped and split his own wood and was working on several wood projects. His memberships included the Canton V.F.W. Post 714 and the NRA. In 1986, he was honored as Sportsman of the Year by the PA Game Commission.
Surviving are his children, Joanne Day of Elmira and Cindy (Tom) Evans of Canton; four grandchildren, Lorne (Maria) Day of Oakdale, Conn., Rob (Melody) Day of Lexington, Mich., Jennifer (Masrur) Syed of Erie, Pa. and Eary (David) Coombs of York, Pa.; seven great grandchildren, Miriam Syed, Grace Coombs, Mark (Eliza) Day, Heather Day, Justin Day, Madelyn Day and Gabriella Day; a great great granddaughter, Kaydence Day; a brother, Edwin (Bessie) Hoffa of Canton; three sisters-in-law, Marjorie Wood and Martha Jean Wood both of Canton and Ona Brasington of Troy.
