Helen Jones Davis, 87
Dec. 29, 2013

Helen Jones Davis, 87, of Towanda, passed away Dec. 29, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 28, 1926, and raised in Scranton, Pa., Helen was the daughter of the late William O. and Eleanor Hammond Jones. She attended Penn State University, where she met her husband, William J. Davis. They married and moved to Towanda in 1952 and raised their three daughters. In the winter months Helen and Bill could be found enjoying their many friendships in Arizona.
Helen was a 1947 graduate of Penn State University. While at Penn State she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. An avid Penn State Football fan, Helen and her husband have held season tickets to the Penn State University football games since 1969. Helen and Bill traveled extensively in Europe and enjoyed touring the United States in their motorhome as well as wintering in Arizona. In later years, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and their families.
Helen was known for her passionate competitive spirit and athleticism throughout her life and well into her eighties. Her agility on the tennis courts was admired when she played with her friends on the Wysox Courts as well as in Arizona. She was a long time member of a bowling league at the Starlite Lanes and at 83 she joined a summer bowling league. Her busy life in Arizona included singing in the Sunrise Resort Community Church Choir, weekly golf matches, playing bridge, and working in the Resort Post Office. Until the time of her death, she enjoyed weekly card games at the RiverStone Inn with friends. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Towanda. Helen lived a vibrant, healthy life and always shared her beautiful smile and kind words with everyone.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Attorney William J. Davis and by her sister Margaret Beddoe of Honesdale, Pa.
She is survived by her three daughters Virginia Lehr of Elkton, Md., Barbara Davis of Plantation, Fla., and Nancy Williams (husband Randy) of Towanda. Also surviving Helen are her seven grandchildren: Morgan Miller (husband Cheyenne) of Rising Sun, Md., Ryan Lehr (wife Kristen) of Elkton, Christine Gasper of Kingston, Pa., Rosemarie Davis of Plantation, Dyson Williams (girlfriend Megan Wells and daughter Hannah) of State College, Pa., Dalton Williams of Hoboken, N.J., Sydney Williams of Towanda. She leaves three great-grandchildren: Kendall and Davis Lehr of Elkton, and Asher Miller of Rising Sun.
