Hugh "Chip" Johnston Jr., 64, Calkins Road, Wellsboro, Pa., passed away on Jan. 3, at Robert Packer Hospital due to an automobile accident. Chip was born on Sept. 21, 1949, in Upland, Pa., the son of the late Hugh K. and Ivy G. "Bonnie" (Conner) Johnston Sr.

Chip was a graduate of Wellsboro Area High School. He joined the United States Navy, during the Vietnam War, serving on the nuclear submarine support ship "The Orion". Chip was the owner/proprietor of "Chip's Carpet & More" formerly known as "The Better Way," from 1982 to the present. Chip was a member of the Ossea Lodge #317, F. & A.M., Wellsboro and an avid Wellsboro Hornet football supporter. Among his many activities in the community he also enjoyed going to Seneca Lake and relaxing in his motor home.

Chip is survived by his son, John S. Johnston of Wellsboro; his daughters, Michele L. Davis (Michael) of Jackson Summit, Pa., Dr. Koryn A. Looney (Robert) of Arlington, Va., and Angie K. Bearor (Andy) of Amherst, N.H.; his sweetheart and life partner, Judy Felt Fuller; three sisters, Marilyn J. McCracken, North Carolina, Gail H. Johnston of Wellsboro, and Sheila P. Toman of Kirkwood, N.Y. Chip also has three grandchildren that he loved and adored: Maran, Aidan, and Nolan. Private memorial service will be held, Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, with Rev. Darwin "Tink" Cranmer officiating.

Friends and family are invited to Chip's Life Celebration from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at the Ossea Lodge #317, Kelsey St., Wellsboro.
