J. Rodney Montgomery, 89, of 102 Dry Run Road, Wysox, Pa., went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday morning, Aug. 28, 2013 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.

Rodney was born in Sayre, Pa., on June 23, 1924, a son of Charles and Lillian Maines Montgomery. He attended Athens High School and in early years was employed by the Athens Foundry and Remington Rand in Elmira N.Y. Rodney was associated with the Elmer Russell Funeral Home in Waverly, N.Y. for several years. He was later employed by the Ingersoll-Rand in Athens for 38 years until his retirement in 1985. On Sept. 14, 1952, Rodney married Margaret Whitney. Rodney was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed being involved in his grandson's lives especially attending their school events. He was a devoted member of the Wysox Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, formerly served as Sunday School Superintendent and was active in church activities. Rodney was also a member of LeRay Lodge No. 471 F. & A.M. and Wysox Lodge No. 1152 I.O.O.F. Rodney formerly served as a member of the Wysox Zoning Board for a number of years. He enjoyed going for rides and attending social events.
Rodney is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; daughters, Amy Montgomery of Wysox and Lora Schmieg and husband Rick of N. Towanda; grandsons, who were his pride and joy, Nathan, Nicholas, and Carson Schmieg; nieces, Sylvia Herrington of Stone Ridge, N.Y. and Linda Stroud of Waverly, N.Y.
In addition to his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry Montgomery and Lewis Montgomery.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013 at the Wysox Presbyterian Church, Wysox, with Rev. Jira Albers officiating. Interment will follow in the Wysox Cemetery, Wysox, Pa. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda. LeRay Lodge No. 471 F. & A.M. will hold a Service of Remembrance at 2:40 p.m. on Sunday at 2:40 p.m. at the funeral home followed by a Service of Remembrance by Wysox Lodge No. 1152 I.O.O.F.
The family suggests that contributions may be directed to the Wysox Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 339, Wysox PA 18854 or to the North Rome Christian School, 3376 N. Rome Rd., Rome, PA 18837 in memory of J. Rodney Montgomery.
