James M. "Jimmy" Cox, 90, a life-long resident of Towanda, Pa., passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 5, 2013 at the Bradford County Manor in West Burlington Township, Pa.
The Guest Book is expired.
"Jimmy" as he was known by his family and friends, was born April 5, 1923, in Towanda the son of the late Isham and Margaret Brennan Cox. He graduated from St. Agnes High School and initially worked in his father's tire recapping business, where for many years he enjoyed driving the back roads of Bradford County picking up and delivering tires and making friends. Later, he was elected Justice of the Peace where he served for four years before being elected District Magistrate Judge where he served for 18 years.
Jimmy inherited a progressive nerve disorder disease which ultimately required that he use crutches and then a wheel chair, though the disease never altered Jimmy's bright outlook on life. In the past several years, after his retirement, Jimmy could be seen almost daily in Towanda riding in his beloved electric cart.
Jimmy is survived by his sister, Margaret "Marguerite" Cox, a resident of the Bradford County Manor; his sister, Dorothy Cox Johns of San Diego Calif.; his niece, Margaret Ann Jancowski Hennig of El Cerrito, Calif.; and three cousins, Ambrose Brennan and Thomas Cox both of Towanda, and John Clancy of Denville N.J. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise Jancowski of California.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Third Street, Towanda, Pa., with Rev. Edward Michelini, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow in SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, North Towanda Twp., Pa.
