James O. "Jim" Bennett, 59, of Monroeton, Pa., passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.

Jim was born on Dec. 19, 1954 in Towanda, Pa., the son of Mamie Chilson Bennett and Frederick Bennett. He was a graduate of Towanda High School class of 1973. On Jan. 5, 1974 he married the former Cathy Tuttle. In earlier years, Jim was employed by Masonite Corporation in Wysox, Taylor Packing in Wyalusing, LePrino Foods in South Waverly, Ennis Sawmill in Wysox and by Agway Petroleum in Wysox until declining health no longer permitted him to continue. Jim was a dedicated member of the Franklin Township Fire Company where he served as fire police captain for many years and the Monroe Hose Company in Monroeton. He loved both. He was also a member of the Monroeton Rod & Gun Club and the Bridge Street Hill Rod & Gun Club.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Cathy Tuttle Bennett; sons, James O. Bennett II. and Jeremy R. Bennett both of Monroeton; his parents, Mamie and Frederick Bennett of Monroeton; a very special grandson, James D. "Jamie" Bennett; very special granddaughters, Hanna Mae Bennett and Baileigh June Bennett; his sister, Patricia K. Bennett of Liberty Corners as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frederick Bennett Jr.

The funeral and committal service will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa., with his uncle, Rev. Carl Bennett and Rev. Thomas Blackall officiating. Interment will be in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pa.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
