Mrs. Mary Fitzgerald Dieffenbach, age 89, of Dushore, Pa., passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013, in Lebanon, Ind., at home with her loving family at her side.

Mary was born in Dushore, Pa., on Sept. 9, 1923, a daughter of the late John and Julia Ryan Fitzgerald. She graduated from St. Basil's High School in Dushore, a member of the class of 1943. She worked as a bookkeeper for Supermarket Service, in Dunmore, Pa. Her husband Percy Dieffenbach died in 1987. Mary was an active member of St. Basil's Church and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed sewing for family and friends.
Surviving Mary are two sons, George (Ruth Ann) Dieffenbach of Virginia Beach, Va., John (Audrey) Dieffenbach of Lebanon, Ind.; a sister, Jane Plastow of Williamsport, Pa.; five sisters-in-law, Isabelle Fitzgerald Schlegel of Camp Hill, Pa., June Fitzgerald of Avoca, Pa., Dorothy Dieffenbach of Dushore, Pa., Ernestine Dieffenbach of Dushore, Pa., Florence Dieffenbach of Liberty Corners, Pa.; brother in law, William Dieffenbach of Tunkhannock, Pa.; four grandchildren: Lori Marie, Jason, Eric and Michael; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Dennis Fitzgerald and Francis Fitzgerald; and a brother-in-law, Harold Plastow.
A transferal service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, Pa., and will be followed by a mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Basil's Church, Dushore, Pa., with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, her pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Basil's Cemetery.
