William MacIntyre Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 13, 2014.
William (Bill) A. MacIntyre Jr., 96, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Towanda Pa., passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014.

He was born to the late Anna Lynch MacIntyre and Dr. William A. MacIntyre, Sr., in October 1917 in Boston, Mass. He grew up in Manchester, Mass. from the age of 6. Bill graduated from Andover Academy. He graduated from Harvard University, Cum Laude and went on to graduate from Harvard Business School in 1942. He was married in November 1942, after going with his wife Anne Tower since they met as teenagers in dancing school. Bill spent his working career with Sylvania, working in Salem, Mass., Wheeling W.Va. and Towanda, Pa. Upon retiring after 35 years, he moved to Port Charlotte and formed a group of sailors to teach sailing to all who were interested. After teaching over 700, they lost count. He was a long time member of Punta Gorda Boat Club, Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club, and the Port Charlotte Sail Club. He actively raced and encouraged his students to do so as well.

Bill leaves his wife, Anne, and their four children and their spouses, daughter, Marilyn (Christopher) Wolf, daughter, Nancy (Eric) Johnson, son, Bill (RaeAnn) MacIntyre and daughter, Jeanne (Robert) Hand; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held April 9 for the immediate family at Charlotte Memorial.

My sincere sympathy to the whole MacIntyre family on Angus' death. A long life, well lived - we can ask for nothing more. I grew up in the neighborhood with the Nancy and Bill "generation" - good memories of that time.

Sincere condolences to the MacIntyre family. Angus was the Personnel Director ( Human Resources) when I started my career at Sylvania. He was there at the beginning of the rapid growth within the Towanda division.

With deepest sympathy to the family. I spent many hours in the MacIntyre house growing up. I will always remember how Bill and Ann made me feel like I was part of the family. We were lucky to be neighbors when I was young and my parents continued their friendship even after Bill and Ann moved to Florida. Thoughts and prayers to all.
