Minnie E. Barnett, 89, of New Albany, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Memorial Hospital, Towanda. Minnie was born in Evergreen, Albany Township, on July 18, 1923 the daughter of the late Minor and Susan Vargason Keeney. She was a graduate of New Albany High School class of 1943 and in early years was employed by several garment manufacturing companies in the area. She was later employed by E.I. DuPont in Towanda for 10 years until her retirement. Minnie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, spending the winter months in Florida, making lawn ornaments and playing bingo.

She is survived by her companion, John Hagadorn; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Scot Sample of New Albany; son, Kevin Barnett and his fiancé Carol Gunn of Towanda; grandchildren, Jolene Gunn (Grant Hamilton) of Arizona, Joshua Gunn of Rome, and Dylan and Nichole Sample of New Albany; sister, Iona Bidlack of Monroeton; half sister, Aletha McDonald of Elmira; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Keeney of Monroeton and Carol Keeney of Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by; brothers, Wesley, Wayne and Ezra Keeney, sister, Beatrice Kisner Brown and a half brother, Ray Keeney.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with Rev. James Hollister, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Towanda officiating. Interment will follow in the Wysox Cemetery, Wysox. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service Friday morning at the funeral home.
