H. Rosa Wilcox, 94, lifelong resident of Canton, LeRoy Twp. Pa., passed away Friday afternoon, April 11, 2014 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre surrounded by his loving family.

Herbert Rosa was born on Aug. 10, 1919 in West LeRoy, Pa. He was one of eight children in the family of the late Herbert S. and Mertie Bell (Every) Wilcox.

He attended Van Fleet School in West LeRoy, LeRoy Grade School and graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1937.

Rosa married E. Marion Huffman on Feb. 12, 1949 at the East Canton United Methodist Church. They were blessed with four sons and three daughters. Marion preceded Rosa in death on July 4, 2001, following 52 years of devoted marriage. Rosa was a dairy farmer all his life and a hardworking man. He was happiest while keeping busy caring for the land and registered Golden Guernsey cattle at the Wilcox Brothers' Valley View Farm in LeRoy Twp. He was a very knowledgeable outdoorsman and enjoyed picking huckleberries and sweet cherries, watching birds, fishing and hunting, especially woodchucks. He was also an avid reader and accomplished carpenter. He won blue ribbons at the Troy Fair for woodworking, built his barn with a half-circle roof, built his home in 1983, helped repair houses after a hurricane in the south and helped with construction of the parsonage at the East Canton United Methodist Church. Picnics at the family's pond and spending winters in Florida were always special times. Rosa was a member of the Windfall United Methodist Church, Windfall Grange No. 257 and the American Guernsey Cattle Club. In the late 1970s, the Wilcox brothers' farm was recognized as having three of the top 300 Guernseys in the United States.

He is survived by his children, Tanya (Stuart) Wilcox of East Troy, Kevin (Linda) Wilcox of Bernville, Pa., Debra (Elwin) Smith of Forksville, Steven (Loretta) Wilcox of Canton, Melea (Terry) Putnam of Sylvania, Alan (Paula) Wilcox of Middletown and Russell Wilcox of Canton; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Jack (Jean) Huffman of Canton and Charles Huffman of Liberty; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Also his devoted caretaker, Jeanne Duart.

In addition to his beloved wife, Marion, Rosa was predeceased by six sisters and a brother, Dorothy Fuller, Hazel Brackman, Velma Hoagland, Caroline Chamberlain, Winifred Shoemaker, Marletta Colton, and G. Benjamin "Bennie" Wilcox.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Windfall United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow with Pastor Richard Noggle officiating and Rosa's friend, Jasper Smith assisting. A private burial will be held in the East Canton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial in Mr. Wilcox's name to the Windfall U.M. Church, c/o 1204 Redington Ave., Troy, PA 16947.
