Dorothy Jones Schmieg, 89, a long-time resident of Lake Wesauking, Pa. passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at Gulfside Regional Hospice in Zephyrhills, Fla.

Dorothy was born in Shamokin, Pa. on Dec. 3, 1924, the daughter of Russell and Sarah Hoover Jones. She was a graduate of Shamokin High School and in early years was employed in the garment manufacturing industry in Shamokin. On June 25, 1953 she married James R. Schmieg in Shamokin and the couple made their home on the family farm at Lake Wesauking. Dorothy was employed by the Farm Credit Bureau in Wysox for 10 years and was subsequently employed by the First National Bank of Bradford County in Towanda and Wysox for many years until her retirement. Dorothy was a 60 year member of the Wysox Presbyterian Church. Dorothy and Jim enjoyed camping and traveled extensively throughout the United States including Alaska, Hawaii and Canada. The couple enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida and summers at Lake Wesauking.
Surviving are her devoted husband of 60 years, James R. Schmieg; daughter and son-in-law, Debbi and Tom Casey of Hickory, N.C.; grandson, Erik Grippo of Lake Weasuking; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Sherman Barnes of Lake Wesauking, Mary Lou and Ralph Snyder of Geneva, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Wysox Presbyterian Church, Wysox, Pa. with Rev. Jira Albers and Rev. Robert Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Wysox Cemetery. The Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home of Towanda, Pa. is assisting the Schmieg family with arrangements.
