Amelia Frawley Mingos, 95, widow of Joseph H. Mingos, passed away Thursday evening, June 26, 2014 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa.

Amelia was born March 9, 1919 in Mendon, N.Y., the daughter of James L. Frawley and Amelia Ambs Frawley. She grew up on the family farm in Ghent, Pa. and graduated from St. Agnes High School in Towanda, Pa. in 1936. After graduation she attended the Lowe School of Business in Binghamton, N.Y. On Jan. 29, 1942 she married Joseph H. Mingos at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Towanda, Pa. The Rev. James Shaughnessy officiated. Father Shaughnessy also officiated at the marriage of her son Joseph E. and his wife Martha twenty-six years later at Ss. Peter and Paul's Church. During WWII, while Amelia's husband Joseph was serving in the Army in the South Pacific, she worked at the Myrna Lee Hosiery mill in Towanda. After the war, Amelia became a full time housewife and resided with her family in Towanda. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Parish, and a member of the Parish Altar and Rosary Society where she served as president for one year. After the death of her husband, she resided for about ten years in Athens, Pa. Amelia enjoyed gardening, baking, reading, crossword puzzles, neighborhood functions, spending time with her grandchildren and traveling to Miami, Fla. to visit her daughter.
She is survived by daughter, Marilyn and husband Chico Fernandez of Miami, Fla.; sons, Joseph and wife Martha of Sayre, Pa., William and wife Susan of Athens, Pa., and Michael of Mansfield, Pa.; grandchildren, Stephen and wife Kelly Fernandez of Sarasota, Fla., Kate and husband John Chippari of Phoenixville, Pa., Beth and husband Frank Stransky of Swarthmore, Pa., Dr. Mark and wife Katrina Mingos of Boston, Mass., Kelly and husband Mark Atanasoff of Sayre, Pa., and David and wife Johanna of Washington, D.C.; great-grandchildren, Matthew Atanasoff, Michael Atanasoff, Megan Atanasoff, Joseph Chippari, Olivia Stransky, Ellie Stransky, Molly Mingos, Jasper Mingos, Alyson Fernandez and Avery Fernandez.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 1991; infant daughter, Margaret; brothers, James, Bernard, Robert and Donald; sisters, Helen McDonald, Ann Hager, Grace Coyles, Rowena Bailey and Bernice D'Orsogna.
The family wishes to thank manager Mary Adams and the staff at the Memorial Hospital Personal Care Home, Memorial Hospital and the Skilled Nursing Unit for the compassion and caring which they extended to Amelia. During her stay there she found comfort, renewed old friendships and met many new friends.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, N. Towanda, Pa. Flowers will be provided by the family.
