Rowena W. McCarty, 76, of Monroeton, Pa., formerly of Mansfield, Pa., passed away early Wednesday morning, July 2, 2014 at home following declining health.

Rowena was born in Towanda, Pa. on May 21, 1938, the daughter of Thomas Otho Wiggins and Eva Northrup Wiggins. She was a graduate of Towanda High School class of 1956. On Jan. 5, 1957 she married Edward L. McCarty in Monroeton. The couple resided in Monroeton for several years and later moved to Mansfield, Pa. where they resided for 20 years. Rowena was employed by the Farmer in the Dell Restaurant and Dairy Store in Mansfield for many years. She was a member and formerly served as pianist of the Mainesburg Methodist Church. Rowena and Edward later returned to Monroeton to make their home. Rowena's life revolved around her home and family. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and was an avid reader.

Surviving are her children, Penny Jeffries of Brackney, Pa., Kirk McCarty of Monroeton, Stephanie Manchester and husband Richard of Allis Hollow; grandchildren, Bradley Rockwell of Pittsburgh, Pa., Kelsey Manchester of Allis Hollow, Kayla Manchester of Potterville, Austin Manchester of Allis Hollow, Dante Jeffries of Warren Center; brother and sister-in-law, Carlton and Sharon Wiggins of Stevensville; sister, Donna Iddings of Phelps, N.Y.; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. McCarty on May 26, 1993; infant son, Brian Keith McCarty in September of 1957; and sisters, Patricia Brown and Suzanne Brown.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. with Pastor Judy Elchak officiating. Interment will be in the Monroeton Cemetery, Monroeton, Pa. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Saturday morning at the funeral home.
