Robert "Bob" Payne, 91, life-long resident of Canton, Pa., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 9, at the Green Home in Wellsboro.

Robert William, "Bob" to family and friends, was born in Canton on April 28, 1923, one of three children of the late Arthur and Mary (Powers) Payne. After attending Canton schools, he served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Bob worked as a machinist for Zwayze Folding Box Co. in Canton for over 30 years until retiring. He was a member of Canton's St. Michael's Catholic Church and a life-member of the V.F.W. Post 714 in Canton. Bob was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing, especially during his many fishing trips to Canada. He also loved gardening.
Surviving are his brother, Edward Payne of Canton; and three cousins, James Hartnatt, Jackie Repard both of Florida and Marie Powers of Elmira.
In addition to his beloved wife, the former Elsie Bohart, who passed away on Mar. 19, 2007, Bob was predeceased by his sister, Anna Loomis on Feb. 15, 2009.
Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, July 14, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr. in Canton followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Canton's St. Michael's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Grover Cemetery.
