Clifford A. Nichols, 85, formerly of Maple Street, Monroeton, Pa., passed away early Monday morning, Jan. 10, 2011, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.

Clifford was born Feb. 7, 1925 in Angola, N.Y., the son of the late Harold E. Nichols and Florence Evans Nichols. He attended high school in Endicott, N.Y., and in early years was employed by several area farms. He was later employed by Remington Rand in Elmira, N.Y., for eight years and by GTE Sylvania in Towanda for 24 years until his retirement in 1987. Clifford was a life member of the Monroe Hose Company and was honored as Fireman of the Year in 1981.

He is survived by: daughters, Dianna Griffith and husband William of Mt. Gilead, Ohio, Lynette Rockl and husband Gilbert of Milan RR 1, Pa., H. Lucinda Bramm of Sheboygan, Wis., Gloria Burns and husband Eugene of West Burlington, Pa., Melissa Sutton and husband S. Thomas of Hanoverton, Ohio; sons, Harold E. Nichols and wife Renee of Big Pond, Pa., Larry R. Nichols of Franklindale, Pa.; grandchildren, Drew Nichols and wife Deb, Clint Nichols, Larry Nichols Jr., Brock Nichols, Harley Nichols, Katina Nichols, Karl Rockl, Tom Rockl, Matthew Bramm and wife Grace, Caitlin Lois Marie Bramm, Brandi Ketter and husband Jim, Roger Wood Jr. and wife Dori, Shelly Wood, Ryean Sutton, Lucas Sutton, Rebecca Sutton, Bobbi Sue Jennings, Gayle Jennings and Tiffany Miller; great-grandchildren, Deidre Berwiller and husband Jason, Desiree Ryan and husband Roberto, Caytlyn Nichols, Lucas Nichols, Larry Nichols III, Miriah Nichols, Drake Nichols, Blaze Nichols, Haley Rockl, Harley Rockl, Gary May, Gregg May, Landon Miller, Sarah Ketter, Emma Ketter, Blair Wood, Blaze Wood, Josh Wood and Oakley Roberts.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois E. Painter Nichols, on April 18, 2006.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. with Pastor Lynn Ensign, of the Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Monroeton Cemetery, Monroeton, Pa.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
