Catherine S. Driscoll, age 82 of Towanda, wife of Dr. Charles Driscoll, died peacefully at the Towanda Memorial Hospital on Friday, March 22, 2013. She will be fondly remembered for her friendly spirit and her helpfulness to others.

Catherine was born February 22, 1931, of Greek—American parents, George and Anna Karamis of Philadelphia. There she was graduated from St. George's Cathedral Greek School and received her commercial diploma from the Kensington High School For Girls. She was originally employed in the accounting department of the Sears Building of Philadelphia. In later years she continued her education at Elmira College, N.Y.

In 1954 she married Dr. George Lopatofsky. Following his years of service as captain in the U.S. Air Force, the couple moved to Troy, Pa., where he opened his dental practice and she managed his office accounting. A caring mother and a business woman, Catherine eventually directed her own real estate investment business. For several years she also enjoyed hosting in her home Rotary International exchange students from many countries.

Participating in club activities, she served as president of both the Troy Hospital Auxiliary and the Troy Music Club. She was a Life Member of the Pennsylvania Federation of Music Clubs in which she held various state offices. She remained a current member of the Wheel Inn Club of Roaring Branch and an Honorary Member of the Thursday Study Club of Troy.

In 1982 Catherine again married, then Dr. Charles Driscoll, educator and professional pianist. For nearly 20 years they resided in West Palm Beach, Florida, where she became active in charity events for the arts. Among her supporting interests was the world—class Palm Beach International Piano Competition held in cooperation with the Palm Beach Symphony Orchestra.

During the '80s and '90s she served on the Board of Directors of the National Federation of Music Clubs. At that time she assisted Dr. Driscoll, National Chairman of Creative Youth, as his Vice Chair of the NFMC Creative Youth Department. Over a decade they directed annually the National Junior Composers Contest when hundreds of talented youths across the country submitted their original music scores in competition for cash—prize awards. Catherine and her husband were also members of the Federation Concert Chorus that performs at all NFMC National Conventions.

An enthusiastic traveler, she visited much of our country and once took a round-the-world scenic tour of five continents. When in Europe she joined relatives in Greece, since she was fluent in Greek. Catherine always enjoyed sightseeing major cities of the world.

Returning to their Towanda home in the new millennium, she and her husband were commissioned Eucharistic Ministers through the Pastoral Formation Institute of the Diocese of Scranton. They assisted at SS. Peter and Paul Parish where she also served as church sacristan.

She will be deeply missed by her husband Charles after 31 years of marriage, and by her children with their spouses: Dr. Debra Lopatofsky and her husband, Dr. Bruce Bense of Troy; Dr. Sandra Behnam of Exton; and Catherine Busch Rumsey and her husband, Todd Rumsey of Troy; by her daughter-in-law, Dr. Nicole Quezada Lopatofsky of Wellsboro; also by her grandchildren: Spencer, Madison and Connor Bense, Andrew Behnam, Hannah and Abby Busch, Eric and Taylor Lopatofsky.

She was predeceased by her first husband, by their infant child George Jr., their teenage daughter Susan, and son Dr. Thomas Lopatofsky; by her parents, a sister Mary Kaloudis, and brothers Christopher and Nicholas Karamis.

Arrangements are made with the Maryott—Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Avenue, Towanda. Visitation hours will be held Monday evening, March 25th at seven o'clock, with Rosary recitation beginning at eight.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Third Street, Towanda on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Edward L. Michelini, Pastor.
