William M. "Bill" Boyd, 79, life-long resident of Canton, Pa., passed away on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

William Marshall Boyd — "Bill" to family and friends — was born on April 29, 1934, at the family homestead on Lower Mountain Road in Canton Township. He was one of three children in the family of the late Emery Marshall and Elizabeth May "Betty" (Cole) Boyd. Bill was a member of the 1952 graduating class of Canton High School. On September 13, 1953, he married the former Alene Morgan and they made their home on Lower Mountain Road. Bill and Alene were blessed with four children and were to celebrate their 60th anniversary next month.

In addition to the daily operations of the Boyd dairy farm, Bill also sold Hanover Shoes from his traveling van to many worksites and local fairs. This led him to purchase the Boyd's Men and Boys Clothing Store on Main Street in Canton (formerly Biddle's) from 1968 to 1987. Bill was very talented at the sewing machine. He did most of the alterations himself, often while a customer waited. Bill was a member of the Ward United Methodist Church and the Florida Fly Wheelers Antique Engine Club in Ft. Mead, Fla.

Bill had interests in many areas and he enjoyed being busy throughout life. In earlier years he loved riding motorcycles. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting deer and raccoon. In 2004, Bill was honored with the Sportsman of the Year Award. He also golfed, gardened and was a talented woodworker. Bill was a loyal supporter and devoted fan of his grandchildren and great grandchildren's school and sports events, especially Little League. He and Alene vacationed in Canada and spent winters in Sebring, Fla. for several years. They were members of The Grand Paraders square dancing group.

In addition to his wife Alene surviving are his children Karen (Bob) Coles of Canton, Ken (Dawn) Boyd of Morrisdale, Pa., Angie (Jeff) Sechrist and Amy (Randy) Bellows all of Canton; eight grandchildren Andrea (Dan) Moretski of Schwenksville, Pa., Erica Kilmer (Tim Williams) of Philadelphia, Kendra (Tyler) Piotrowski, Wesley (Jaime) Boyd all of Morrisdale, Tyler (Julie) Sechrist, Jill (Jason) Ward, Derrike Bellows and Cassidy Bellows all of Canton; eight great-grandchildren Rachel and Kate Moretski, Lindley and Oliver Sechrist, Hayden, Hudson, Holden and Jaylee Ward; his sister Barbara Boyd of Williamsport; a sister-in-law Kate Boyd of West Chester, Pa.; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; Amber Chaapel, Janet (Tom) Pepper all of LeRoy and Joyce (Frank) Landon of Canton; special nieces and nephews Missy (Kilmer) Loudenslager, Becky (Kilmer) Metzler, Matt Boyd and Mike Boyd; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
