Arthur L. Cole, 81, of 312 York Ave., Towanda, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa.

Arthur was born in East Athens on June 20, 1932, the son of Lewis and Hazel Skinner Cole. After attending school in Athens, he joined the U.S. Army, where he served in the Korean War. Arthur was a truck driver for over 60 years, traveling across the country, working for multiple companies throughout his career, before retiring in 1994. After Arthur retired, he worked for the Daily Review, delivering newspapers to local post offices and mini-marts. He enjoyed doing yard work and took pride in maintaining his home.

Arthur is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Martha Anderson Cole; children, Brian Cole and wife Penny of Towanda, Trudy Mellott and husband Jerry of Needmore, and Michael Cole of Towanda, Arthur 'Buster' Cole and wife Nancy of Athens, and Tony Cole of N.C.; grandchildren, Jeremy Cole and Jessie of LeRaysville, Jeffrey Cole and wife Stephanie of Sugar Run, Joshua Cole of Towanda, Nathan Hadlock of Towanda, and Kacey Hadlock of Towanda; great-grandchildren, Jocelynn Cole and Camron Cole; sisters, Frances Johnson of Sayre and Ida Arnold and husband Charles of Sayre; brother, Elmer Cole and wife Toni of Tennessee; half-brothers, Lyle Cole and wife Karen of Va., Aubrey Cole and wife Anna of Athens, and Keith Cole; half-sister, Madeline Nothstein and husband Barry of Athens; brother-in-law, George Anderson and Norma Lee of Wyalusing; sister-in-law, Jan Williams and husband Russell of Wyalusing; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Arthur was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Cole; father and step-mother, Lewis and Lura Cole; sons, Steve Cole and Frank Cole; siblings, Kenneth Cole, Carrie Tribe, Charles Cole and Mary O'Connell; father-in-law and friend, Raymond 'Smokey' Anderson; mother-in-law, Dorothy Anderson; sisters-in-law, Laura Loyack and husband Robert and Vanessa Shaffer.

Abiding by Arthur's wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions may be directed to Memorial Hospital EMS, 91 Hospital Drive, Towanda, PA 18848, or the Towanda Fire Department, 101 Elm St., Towanda, PA 18848, in memory of Arthur L.
