John Joseph DeSisti, 76, of Waverly, N.Y. passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2014 following an extended illness. John was born in Sayre, Pa. on April 18, 1937, the son of Louis F. and Mary Spardute DeSisti. He attended the Epiphany School in Sayre and was a graduate of Sayre High School class of 1955. On Aug. 6, 1960, he married the former Nancy Cochi. John operated the family grocery store, Johnny's Foodliner, in Sayre for 10 years and was active in real estate in the valley area managing DeSisti Properties for over 50 years. He enjoyed being self-employed, giving to others, spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, trapping, working in his greenhouse, gardening, harvesting mushrooms and in later years vacationing in special places, especially Aruba. John loved his family and will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and an extremely hard working man.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Cochi DeSisti at home; four children, Mary Lou Gates and husband Jock B. Gates of Waverly, N.Y., John A. DeSisti and wife Natalie R. DeSisti of Waverly, N.Y., Barbara A. DeSisti-Hall and husband Brandon T. Hall of Athens, Vincent J. DeSisti and wife Trisha J. DeSisti of Sayre; 11 grandchildren and a great grandson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Louis F. DeSisti in 1996. A mass in celebration of John's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at the Church of the Epiphany, S. Elmer Avenue, Sayre. The family will receive friends from 8:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Interment will be private.
