Dorothy May Cotton, 87, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Memorial Hospital's Skilled Nursing Unit, Towanda, Pa.

She was born March 25, 1920, in the Town of Barton, N.Y., to Arthur and May Newman Robbins.

She attended and graduated from Waverly High School in 1938. She was employed after high school at the Eclipse factory in Elmira Heights, N.Y., and participated in the Civil Air Patrol in the 1950s. Dorothy always found time to help with acts of kindness and compassion to family and friends. She was a wonderful and generous person who loved to garden and give away the fruits of her labor. Her other talent was to work alongside her husband, Vern, as his clerk at their auctions. She will be remembered for the loving home she made for her family.

She was a longstanding member of the Athens Methodist Church and volunteered her time to many church activities.

She is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Hoffman of Reston, Va., and Thelma and husband Thomas O'Malley of Batavia, N.Y.,/Seminole, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Mary Cotton of Athens; grandchildren, Natalie Jo and Michael Cohen of Fairfax, Va., Jeffrey Hoffman of Norfolk, Va., Tracey and Paul Skafidas of Bristow, Va., Colleen Sutorius of Mendon, N.Y., Mary Grace and William Bader of Liverpool, N.Y., Gerry and Stephanie O'Malley of Henrietta, N.Y., Kelly and Edward Fuetterer of Youngstown, N.Y., Casey and Tracy O'Malley of Fremont, Calif., Patrick Cotton of Athens and Molly Cotton of Athens; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Cotton was predeceased by her father and her mother; her sister, Lottie Russell; three brothers, Charlie, Harry and Walter Robbins; her husband of 49 years, Vern William Cotton; her infant daughter, Sandra May Cotton; and her grandson, Michael O'Malley.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 14, at Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home, 225 S. Main St., Athens. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home followed by interment at the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens.
