Helen Vickers

Waterford - Helen Vickers, 91, of Waterford, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at Sava Healthcare at Bride Brook in Niantic.

She was born in Manhattan, Jan. 31, 1922, the daughter of John and Catherine O'Boyle. She was a graduate of Eastern High School in Washington, D.C., and attended Mt. Holyoke College.

She married CW0-2 Warren Vickers on Aug. 6, 1949, in Annapolis, Md. He predeceased her in 1995. Before marriage, she worked in the Office of the Secretary of the Navy in Washington.

She is survived by her son, Mark Vickers and his wife, Helen, of East Lyme; her daughter, Karen "Candy" Vickers and her husband, Martin Brzozowski, of Waterford; grandson, Eric Vickers, his wife, Jennifer, and their children, Lilly and Annabelle.

She was predeceased by her sister, Mary O. Myers.

Helen's family would like to thank the staff at Sava Healthcare at Bride Brook for their wonderful care, kindness, and compassion shown to her and her family throughout her stay.

There will be a memorial gathering from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. Interment will be private at a later date in St. Mary Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the World War II Memorial Fund, 12 School St., Groton, CT 06340, or to the charity of choice.
