Harry Greene Obituary

Stonington - Harry A. Greene Jr., 81, of Stonington, beloved husband of 22 years to Andrea (Kimball) Greene, and direct descendant of General Nathanael Greene, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at the Westerly Hospital.

Born in Norwich, he was the son of the late Harry A. Greene and Elsie (Heap) Greene and moved to Stonington 27 years ago. He graduated from Fair Haven High School in Massachusetts. After his high school education, he graduated from UMass Dartmouth College. He served in the OSS, now the CIA, during the Korean Conflict.

Harry was the director of marketing for the fibers division for the former Allied Chemical Corp., (now Honeywell) where he created a nationwide program using professional football players as product representatives. His program earned national attention and became extremely successful which eventually drew professional athletes from all other sports franchises. Harry and his longtime friend and Hall of Famer, Andy Robustelli, guided many young pro athletes in their careers following sports. Harry continued to be an articulate spokesperson for over 25 years for Allied Chemical Corp. opening markets and increasing sales throughout the United States.

He loved to travel and especially enjoyed fishing down in Sanibel Island in Fla., playing golf and relaxing on his boat. Harry was a member of the Wadawanuck Club and was a faithful volunteer at the Westerly Hospital. He also served on the board as treasurer of the Stonington Cemetery.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, Kimberly Welch, Stephanie Alessandra and her husband, Anthony; step-children, Nancy, Tyler and Terry Hindermann; and six grandchildren, Matthew and Colin Welch and Ellis, Mia, Grace and Curtis Hindermann.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Sandra Greene.

A graveside service with military honors will be held in the spring at the Stonington Cemetery, at a time to be announced. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Stonington Free Library, P.O. Box 232, Stonington, CT 06378 or to the Stonington Cemetery, 345 N. Main St., Stonington, CT 06378.
